MARSHFIELD — With hopes of making the Pilgrim nuclear power station in Plymouth safer, local advocates are trying to drum up support from the residents who live closest to the plant. The Pilgrim Coalition, a group of local citizens concerned about the Plymouth plant’s durability following last year’s Fukushima Dai-ichi disaster in Japan, has collected enough signatures to put the issue up for nonbinding votes this spring in Plymouth, Kingston, Duxbury and Marshfield.…

Tritium levels plunge at the Pilgrim nuclear power plant in Plymouth

PLYMOUTH — The levels of groundwater contamination from a radioactive isotope have plunged at the Pilgrim nuclear power plant in recent weeks, but the plant’s operators don’t seem to be much closer to figuring out the source of the problem.

Despite the sharp decline, representatives for the Plymouth plant and the Nuclear Regulatory Commission said it’s far too early to know if the problem has gone away.…
